General description of the collection: The collection contains the papers and photographs of Major Benjamin P. Bretz. The collection includes a World War II German Army Identification document, "Soldbuch," of Gregor Langhansl kept from 1943 to 1944, and a newsletter titled Fore 'n Aft published on 19 July 1946 aboard the United States Army Transport E. B. Alexander. Bretz's collection contains a number of manuals, brochures, and pamphlets on the construction of family fallout shelters written between 1958 and 1961. A photocopy of a letter from James Y. Butler to Mrs. Mary E. Hardy dated 1 December 1864 and a map of Fort Hamilton, NY from 23 August 1949 are included in the collection. The photographs consist of a series of snapshots of Florida in April 1940 and images of the 1941 Maneuvers in Tennessee and Louisiana with an unidentified Armored Division. A postcard album of Germany completes the collection.
